The history between the USPS & motorcycles start back in 1907 when postal delivery by motorcycle was first authorized. In 1913, Harley Davidson introduced a detachable sidecar for parcel delivery. After World War I ended in 1918, the War Department transferred 1,087 motorcycles to the Post Office Department, which was the peak of use especially in growing cities. Eventually motorcycles were phased out for trucks, and were last used in 1928.
